THE HISTORY
From Heavy Foundation to Tailored Lace Tints
Lace wigs have been around for decades, first making appearances on screen and stage. But as they made their way into everyday beauty, especially within the Black hair community, the need to make them look like scalp became a creative journey.
At first, it was all about foundation and concealer—dabbing makeup onto the lace or your wig cap to match your skin tone. It worked, but it was never perfect. The lace would oxidize, makeup would transfer, and the finish wasn’t always long-lasting, especially in heat or under lights.
The beauty industry responded with lace-specific solutions—and now, instead of layering on foundation, we have tint-focused formulas designed to mimic real skin tones, melt seamlessly, and maintain their tone throughout wear.
This shift is about more than convenience. It’s about respecting the craft of wig application and the artistry that goes into every install.
